How can the morphing of content through different stages bring the designer or artist to new formal approaches? For the piece „Music for 18 Musicians“ by Seve Reich a series of sketches was created, which allowed different approaches and tries to unite them. In all the approaches it crystallizes how much the concept of a gradual process comes into play in the composition. In an experimental phase, some gradual processes were investigated in the environment (tree structures, branching of vein systems, absorption of liquid with a sponge, smoke development). Many of these processes are fractally describable; they form fractal patterns. These experiments resulted in different positions and a book that documents the process.
